If AI was doing its job, we'd be talking about cheap housing, not AI
Apologies for the short post. I've been thinking about this topic for a while, but I don't want to invest the time into actually doing research on it.
The three big industries in the US right now are AI, AI, and AI. And in fourth and fifth place are AI and AI.
Does that reflect a lack of innovation in other sectors of the economy? Will it prevent innovation in other sectors? On one hand, the value proposition of AI is that it will make the rest of the economy far more productive. What has me worried is that all the news is about AI itself, which isn't ultimately what we care about, and never about plummeting cost of production and prices of consumer goods, which we do.
In other words, AI isn't sufficiently boring. It should have faded into the background, buried by stories about cheap housing, shorter workweeks, and improved long-term care.
